The basic modules offered in the first semester in San Luis Potosi are compulsory for all students. At the beginning of the semester each student selects the specialized area (see above) – related to the personal interest and to the master thesis. During the semester the student defines the topic for the master thesis and suggests the composition of the supervising committee. This commission consists of three professors; at least one from UASLP and one from CUAS. Together with the supervisor each student also selects one out of the four specialized areas at TERMA/CUAS.
In the second semester all students take part in the multidisciplinary seminar and in the thesis seminar. In parallel they start working at their master thesis. Further more the student can choose two electives out of a total offer of over 30 courses related to the five specialized areas. In Cologne during the third semester each students take part in the thesis seminar and in a multidisciplinary project. in addition four electives out of a total number of about 20 modules have to be chosen. At the end of the third semester each student hands in a document describing the state of the master thesis and a detailed program for the field research in the fourth semester. This is going to be presented to the plenum of students and professors.
The fourth semester is dedicated to field research and the finalization of the written thesis. The results of the thesis will be defended at the end of the semester in a final exam.
